Day 1
Madrid/Siguenza
Arrival at Madrid Airport, where you can pick up your rental car and begin
your journey in the charming medieval town located in the Northeast of
Castile-La Mancha, Siguenza. Upon arrival, check into the Castillo de
Siguenza. This 12th-century medieval castle, once residence of bishops and
cardinals, will provide intimate surroundings to welcome you.
Day 2 Siguenza/Calahorra
After breakfast continue your journey north towards La Rioja, Spain's
noteworthy wine region. Upon reaching your destination, check into the
Parador de Calahorra, Marco Fabio Quintilanno and immerse yourself in the
gardens and local decor of the region.
Day 3 Calahorra/Olite
Today you will make your way just north of Rioja to Olite in the Navarre
region. Upon arrival, visit what was once the Palace of Kings of Navarre and
the Navarre Museum of Wine and Vineyards. Tonight your stay will be at the
Parador de Olite, Principe de Viana, a 15th-century medieval castle with
stained-glass windows and tastefully furnished rooms ready to welcome you.
Day 4 Olite
Visit some of the local wine vineyards of the area including Piedemonte,
Marco Real and Bodega Ochoa wineries. Afterwards, stop at nearby Oliva
Monastery before heading back to your castle retreat in Olite for the
evening.
Day 5 Olite/Santo Domingo de la Calzada
Continue your exploration of Spain's wine country as you venture towards the
Upper Rioja region. Today you will make your way to Santo Domingo de la
Cazada; a town deeply marked by religious travelers who stop here before
continuing on towards the legendary tomb of Saint James the Apostle. Upon
arrival, check into the Parador de Santo Domingo de la Calzada, a
12th-century former hospital.
Day 6 Santo Domingo de la Calzada
Continue your exploration of the wine region with a visit to Briones for a
stop at the Dinastia Vivanco Winery museum. Here you will have an opportunity
to find ancient world wine artifacts dating back as much as 5,000 years.
Day 7 Santo Domingo de la Calzada/Soria
Today you will leave the Rioja region and be welcomed by nearby Ribera del
Duero in the Castilla-Leon region, home to more than 150 wineries. If history
is more your interest, make sure to stop by the neighboring archaeological
site Numancia. Afterwards, check into the Parador de Soria, Antonio Machado
in Soria.
Day 8 Soria/Madrid/USA
After breakfast, drive back to Madrid Airport, where you can return your car
and board your return flight to the USA, for same day arrival.
